About me

Hi! I’m Chin Boon, a researcher at the National University of Singapore in the Faculty of Engineering, Control & Mechatronics Lab 1.

I’m a engineer by training with a background in Mechancial Engineering, but I love tinkering around with hardware, electronics and software.

My Work and research

My research topic is the areas of mechatronics, medical devices and artificial intelligence. I have been working in the multi-disciplinary field of medical robotics, for more than 10 years. Besides my expertise and enthusiasm in engineering, I am passionate in translational research of developing solutions based on state-of-the-art technologies for the industry, in particular, to help patients or SMEs with the assistance of smart technology.

My technical expertise is in integrating multi-disciplinary systems - working with technology spanning a wide range of electronics, hardware and software for various medical devices in applications across almost the entirety of the human body.

Research topics: Robotics, medical devices, Deep learning, Control enginnering, Mechatronics

Mentoring and Teaching

I’ve mentored masters students in their research project and undergraduate students in their final year projects. I like to tailor the project scope and objectives based on the student’s academic and personal goals. I encourage my mentees to share thir thoughts and ideas, to try without fear of failure or reprisal. I prefer a hands-on approach especially during the experimentation phases and am perfectly happy getting my hands dirty.

I’ve worked as teaching assistant in both tutorial and laboratory sessions for undergraduate students.

My Background and History

I received my Ph.D, M.Eng and B.Eng from National University of Singapore.

Interests

I am a tinkerer at heart and love idealizing, prototyping and testing small projects that span multiple disciplines. I will be documenting the various projects that I’ve worked on in the future. Stay tuned for more information!
